Schools and Community Groups are invited to contact Surf Lifesaving South Coast to organise a Surf & Beach Safety Information presentation.

The BEACHSMART School program has been an enormous success with 32 south coast schools participating during the summer season 2002/03.

The School program is offered to Primary Schools but can be adapted to cater for secondary schools and various community groups.  Opportunities are also available to have your group visit a local surf club whilst learning about rips and beach hazards and the role of Surf Lifesavers in our Community.

Ten Surf Safety hints from Surf Life Saving NSW Inc.
Always swim or surf at places patrolled by lifesavers or lifeguards

Swim between the red and yellow flags. They mark the area for safer swimming

Always swim under supervision

Read and obey the signs on the beach, eg no diving, no fishing, no surf craft

If you are unsure of surf conditions ask a lifeguard

Don’t swim directly after a meal

Don’t swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Never run and dive into the water. Even if you have checked before. Water conditions can change

If you get into trouble in the water, stay calm. Signal for help, float and wait for assistance
